The Tactix 8 Solar is a tactical GPS smartwatch from Garmin featuring solar charging, traditional buttons, and a touchscreen. With the Tactix 8 Solar, you can keep going for a long time, with up to 48 days of battery life in smartwatch mode with solar charging (assuming the watch is used all day, with 3 hours spent outside in 50,000 lux conditions). The watch comes with a 1.4'' screen with sapphire glass, a titanium frame case, black DLC coating, and a black titanium back. The screen is compatible with night-vision goggles and features an integrated LED flashlight providing a strong and even beam of green or white light. In NVG mode, the white light is disabled, and the green flashlight becomes dimmable.

The Tactix 8 Standard Edition Solar comes with an Applied Ballistics Ultralight calculator for access to aiming solutions for long-distance shooting in the field. The watch is preloaded with tactical and aviation functions, dual-position format coordinates, jumpmaster mode, projected waypoints, stealth mode, and a kill switch. With the kill switch, you can erase the entire device's user data if security is a concern, while the jumpmaster mode can calculate the parachute release point according to military guidelines and assist in navigating to the target after the jump.

With this watch, you can navigate under tough conditions thanks to advanced navigation features, pre-installed TopoActive maps as well as ski maps; additionally, it supports GPS with multi-band frequency and multi-GNSS. For pilots, the watch offers aviation features such as Direct-To and Near Me Airports, METAR/TAF, and Nexrad weather radar. The Direct-to-navigation button allows you to fly directly to a position or a waypoint, while the nearest-button activates a route to the nearest airport.

The watch also includes advanced training features that allow you to monitor health and customize your training. Performance metrics, endurance, HIIT activity profile, advanced health monitoring, as well as smart features like Garmin Pay and music cover most of your needs for an active lifestyle. With the HIIT activity profile, it can track your high-intensity interval workouts, including AMRAP, EMOM, Tabata, and custom workouts. The performance metrics can display advanced training statistics, such as running dynamics, heat- and altitude-adjusted VO2 max, trail run adjustments, recovery advice, and more.

With power management, you can see how various settings and sensors affect the watch's battery life, allowing you to make changes to extend battery life during use.
