Women's Base Layers

A base layer is a versatile garment that you can use for many activities all year round; skiing, running, hiking and outdoor activities. To find the right base layer for the right activity, you can look out for the material weight in g/m2, this is a measure of how thick the material is. Keep warm with the right women's base layer

Layering is a well-known method to stay warm in colder weather and climates. When choosing a base layer, it's important to consider its intended use. Will you use it while biking to work? Or are you planning a longer hike in nature? Think about how much you will move when wearing the base layer. Choose the material based on what you will do.

Merino wool – nature's own insulation

If you intend to use the base layer while biking to work, or for shorter trips in the local area, then you should choose merino wool. This material is completely natural, breathable, and keeps you warm, even in wet and cold weather. Merino wool has some great properties when it comes to insulation. A layer of air is created between your skin and the base layer, which is warmed by your body heat, thereby preventing heat from being conducted away from your body. Merino wool can also absorb moisture and sweat up to 30% of its own weight without feeling moist. Even when the wool is damp, it still retains warmth and neither smells nor itches! Base layers in merino wool are best suited for colder temperatures and activities with low to medium activity levels.

Synthetic base layers – suitable for all situations

Synthetic base layers have many good functions. They come in various types, such as polyester, polypropylene, and polyamide, and can be used in all seasons. The synthetic material works in such a way that it does not bind moisture like cotton does, but instead wicks it away through the material. This keeps the base layer dry while you exercise.

Two layers in one – a combination of synthetic and wool

Here you get the best properties from both wool and synthetic base layers. The inner layer is synthetic and thus wicks away all moisture and sweat, keeping you dry throughout the day. The outer layer is made of merino wool and retains heat. This combination ensures you stay dry and warm, regardless of the weather or activity. Base layers with two layers are excellent for winter activities with medium to high activity levels.

Underwear for active women

If you are very active, then you also know how important comfortable clothing is. You might already have base layers and functional outerwear, but have you thought about your underwear? This is often overlooked but can be crucial for the best possible experience. For us women, the right sports bra can make a big difference in how we train and move. A good sports bra keeps the breasts in place and reduces their movement. This allows you to exercise without your breasts restricting your movements and without discomfort. Complement the sports bra with boxer briefs or seamless panties to avoid chafing while you train.
